I added a batch of 4 to the shop today and have 4 more that I still need to take pictures of and add, which I hope to have up shortly.

I used new and vintage spun cotton birds on these. I also used lots of vintage millinery bits and pieces.

Each one features a different line or word that I found reminded me of spring and good things.

Once again, you can find them right here in the shop.
Of course, after I made these, I started in on some Christmas ornaments! Never too early, right? Haha!
Another good week at my local Goodwill outlet! Have I mentioned lately that I love that place? Lots of Christmas again, but I'm okay with that.
I even found some vintage deer tucked in a box and some vintage Christmas corsages and crafty bits tucked into an old greeting card box! Super excited when I opened those! I was extremely surprised when I found a bag of loose gold mercury glass beads with the cutest graphic on the cardboard top...you can see the bag just below the 3 boxes of unbreakable Yule Jewel ornaments. More ornaments, more Shiny Brites, more Santa mugs...love it all!
Aside from my fun finds, also making my week is the news of a Veronica Mars movie! Super duper excited. I was really late to the Veronica Mars party, as in I really only watched the series for the first time about a year ago, but I fell in love (also really fell in love with Logan Echolls...sigh.) and wondered why I hadn't watched the show when it originally aired. Will definitely be seeing this as soon as it is released! This video they included on the Kickstarter page is the best too...I think I've watched it about 5 times already throughout the day.
Until next time...enjoy the rest of your week!
No lie. It's the best! Tim and I go any time we are off together. We both look for different things, of course, and I find more than he does because I collect more things than he does, but it's fun for us (even if it can be stressful dealing with some of the other patrons while there sometimes!)...
I took some photos of some of my most recent finds...lots of Christmas! I've noticed most of the people there groan when they see Christmas, but my hearts starts beating fast! It always amazes me that all of these ornaments don't get broken in those big giant bins. Sometimes they do and you see the remnants of some poor ornament in the bottom of the bin, but I've been lucky to find lots that don't. I'm very grateful that these made it out okay!
I found a cardboard box the other day with Shiny Brite indents, bells, stripes and some vintage Germany and Poland ornaments as well. I was so excited! I'm definitely going to need more trees next year, if that's possible.
I've also been super lucky to find 2 Cathrineholm dutch ovens. Tim actually found the 2nd one...he's learning well! That makes my total Cathrineholm collection count to 4 and I haven't paid more than $2 for any of them!
This Goodwill outlet is actually a good substitute while yard sale season is still a bit off. Actually, knock on wood, but I think I've actually had better luck at the outlet than with yard sales lately.

Even still, I can't wait for nice weather to arrive and actually go to some yard and estate sales! Not too long now!
It hasn't been 1,000 months since my last post, only 1, unlike last year! So, yes, Christmas happened and then went as quickly as it came, if not even more quickly. And then the new year hit and I am still getting used to writing 13 and not 12. I've packed all my decorations carefully away until next Christmas season and now everything has a very white/fresh feel, which is nice, I won't lie.
I've been laying low and not really doing too much of anything. Trying to load up on vitamin C and avoid all the nasty germs going around (knock on wood!). I've been catching up on movie-watching and book reading. In the past few weeks, I've read Erin Morgenstern's the Night Circus (loved it!), Kyra Davis' latest installment in the Sophie Katz series, Vanity, Vengeance and a Weekend in Vegas, and most recently Veronica Roth's Divergent (really loved this and flew threw it in less than 24 hours...Hunger Games-esque, but different as well). Veronica Roth's Insurgent is next up on my list.
Also, in the past few days I developed a new addiction...my local Goodwill by the pound outlet! Totally felt grubby after but, found some great stuff digging around through all the bins. Tim loved it too! I found so much stuff...craft stuff, vintage stuff, Christmas stuff and I also found 18 cents, haha.

In one bin, I found this plastic white lady's bust and I recognized it as part of a vintage thread spool holder, as I had purchased a pink one through Etsy last year after stumbling upon it. Looking at these huge messy bins, I was thinking, yeah, right, as if I'll find the other 2 pieces, but I had to try. Here I am digging and digging, looking for these 2 rather plain looking white plastic pieces. Towards the other side of the bin, I couldn't believe it when I found her dress piece. Then I had hope and I was determined. I just needed to find her base and lo and behold, I did! Now, I have one in pink and one in white...perfect!
The best thing about the outlet is that you pay by the pound, so for someone like me, who loves little things and generally light things, I can get quite a bit for little money. It's great! I think I kind of thought that the outlet would hold nothing but reject junk. I was wrong and there are treasures to be found! You just have to dig and shift and keep looking. Can't wait to go back!

How is the new year treating you so far?
Ps., the image above was taken by my 2 year old cousin last night. She may have a future as a photographer! You never know!Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07910824828818098461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5630189164102430528.post-13181752980935255162012-12-13T22:51:00.004-05:002012-12-13T22:51:51.926-05:00Decking the Halls 2012I just finished watching this year's Glee Christmas special, so I'm on a Christmas high right now. Even if Glee isn't the same show I originally fell in love with, I think it's getting a little bit back on track and their Christmas episodes are always really fun! So, while I'm on this Christmas high, I thought it would be a good time to share the rest of the photos of my Christmas decorations this year. Of course this means there's another photo-heavy post ahead!
I think I picked up more decorations this year than I had originally thought, because towards the end, I was really stretching to find places to put things. In my eyes, you can never really have too much Christmas, as long as you really love everything you have. I find I cherish my Christmas decorations a little bit more than my every day decorations. Does that mean I want to keep them up all year? No. And not wanting to dust everything does have a lot to do with that. Really, though, I think it makes them extra special bringing them out one time of year.
Every time I open a box or uncover a new layer in a box, I get so excited to see everything again. It's especially exciting to see something you forgot you had. This happens a lot with things I find over the summer at yard and estate sales. Sometimes if I don't take a picture of it, and just put it away in the Christmas closet, I forget I picked it up and it's like finding it all over again! Does that ever happen to you?
Most of all, I just love putting everything up and making it look like a mini Christmas wonderland in here. Sure, it's a process sometimes and it can get a little overwhelming at first, but it all comes together and when it does, it's the best! There truly is something magical about Christmas to me and the decorations are just the icing on the cake!
I have a total of 5 4 ft. trees (a pink and blue tree, a red, green and gold tree, a pink colorful tree, a black sci-fi tree featuring Twilight, Harry Potter, LOTR, etc. and a multi-colored tinsel tree), 3 2 ft. trees (a silver woodland deer tree, a white all kitsch tree and a hot pink angel tree) and 3 1 ft. trees (a white colorful tree, a green, red and blue tree and a vintage gold tree) for a grand total of a lot of trees! Just kidding...11 trees. 12, if you count my new ceramic tree. If you go to my FlickR photostream, I go into more detail about each tree.
That's a lot of trees, right??? And they are all PACKED! I don't know what I'll do if I acquire more ornaments...yikes! But, who am I kidding, if I spot Shiny Brites, they are coming home with me!

I will be back soon with the rest of my Christmas decoration pictures of the non-tree variety. See you soon!
I have multiple designs, some in pink, some in red! Some are one of a kind, some I have multiples of. Perfect for hanging by your chimney with care this holiday season!

Each stocking I cut from quality felt, then embellished with free hand cut felt pieces to form a cute design or scene. I adorned each stocking with hand stitched sequins and beads, for a truly special piece. Then, I machine stitched both sides of each stocking together and added a felt tab at the top for easy hanging!

I used vintage spun head angels as inspiration to get me started and ended up making a whole little army of them!

There's blondes, brunettes, angels in pink dresses, angels in blue dresses...lots of options! I added them to the shop today and you can find the listing here. Please note that the listing is for one angel ornament. You can leave me a note in the notes to seller section during checkout with any preferences on hair color and dress color and I will do my best to accommodate. If you have your heart set on a certain combination, I recommend contacting me before purchasing to make sure that combination is still available.
Back to the estate sale though. I had mentioned that I think my good thrift karma is coming back and it didn't disappoint on this trip either! I was 10 minutes late getting to the sale (I know, I know!) and paid the price when I first walked in the door to the house and saw a woman walk past me with about 4 or 5 boxes of Shiny Brites stacked in her hands. I'm still not over missing out on those. At the same time, I figured there had to be more Christmas somewhere, checked one room, nothing but a bed and a bureau, checked the next room, nothing again and in fact, there really wasn't a lot of stuff at this sale...a table with stuff here, some pictures propped against a wall there. I was beginning to think that was it, when I spotted a couple boxes on the floor in the dining room. People were around, but I made sure to dig my way in and found 2 boxes of solid red Shiny Brites...not too bad, but I can only imagine the ones that were in the boxes that I had missed!

Then I spotted a couple fun little vintage trees...2 vintage pink gauze trees with mercury glass baubles marked Japan on the bottom. The tips of these trees were broken, but I think I can glitter them or do something to make them look okay. Too pretty and different to pass up! I then spotted a vintage bottle brush Charlie brown type tree/candelabra thingy...grabbed that too. Also found lots of bottle brush trees and sprigs without bases that I can surely use in crafts and a vintage Dakin Mrs. Claus ornament. I also picked up some handmade felt snowmen ornaments with sequins, a lone spun cotton bird and vintage Christmas card hanger. There was a rather unremarkable-looking shoebox marked "Santa and Frosty Blow-Ups"...I peeked inside and sure enough, they were still there and looked super cute and vintage, so I grabbed the box. Poked around some more, but didn't see anything else. Decided to go check out the living room, nothing in there either. I then walked into the kitchen, the last room I hadn't checked out yet and my eye immediately went to an out of place zip-loc bag on a counter with some kitchen-type stuff. I looked around not believing my luck and snatched the bag and quickly put it in my bag. Inside this zip-loc was 4 vintage Japan pinecone elves with the cutest little faces. I've been wanting some of these elves for years, but they are always way outside of my price range online. These were the first I've ever seen thrifting. Totally scored with these guys! While they don't entirely take the sting away from losing the Shiny Brites, they do help a lot!

After the estate sale, I ventured over to the local Salvation Army and Goodwill again, hoping for some more good stuff and sure enough, I did find some things! At the Salvation Army, I found another bottle brush candy cane with mercury glass beads, 2 for 2 on bottle brush candy canes during Salvation Army trips now. I also found a glass Eiffel Tower in clear (I have a pink one already), a white and blue hobnail milk glass dish, some flocked velvette ribbon, a cute Hallmark Santa with Cookies and Milk ornament, a couple more single gold Shiny Brites, some plastic made in Hong Kong nativities and a plastic house with Santa and his sleigh.

At Goodwill I found a super cute vintage elephant planter, some flower looms, wooden mushroom spike things, a Crate & Barrel snowman mug and Rock-a-Bye Baby Junior Elf book to add to my collection. Not too shabby for a day out thrifting! Looking forward to some church sales this coming weekend and maybe another trip to the Salvation Army and Goodwill as long as they are being good to me!
I definitely feel like my good thrift karma is coming back! I took some photos today and wanted to share them with you.

We first went to the Salvation Army family store. At this particular store (maybe all of them, I'm not sure...check with your local store), Wednesday is Family Day and every thing is 1/2 off except for the current color ticket. I like this better than Goodwill's color of the week deal. Generally, I rarely find anything at Goodwill that is worth picking up when it is the 1/2 off color...I think by the time it comes to a color being 1/2 off, everything is already too picked through. I'm sure you can find some deals if you are diligent, but like I said, in my experience, I almost never do. What I also like about the Salvation Army is that their prices are actually reasonable. More and more with the Goodwill stores in my area, I find the prices go up on things they think are worth it. For example, when the store in my neighboring town first opened back in 2008, I could find gorgeous Pyrex pieces for $2.99-$4.99. Now, I find incredibly worn/scratched/faded pieces for $4.99-$5.99 and nicer pieces for $6.99-$7.99. At these prices and with the amount of Pyrex I have, I need to really love the piece to pick it up, but a vast majority of the time, I'll pass. Another example is that everything at my Goodwill stores starts at 99 cents...nothing is priced below 99 cents, whereas, at Salvation Army, I have seen things for 19 cents, 29 cents, etc.

On this trip to the Salvation Army, I found the vintage Angel topper/ornament (marked "Japan"), the felt mouse ornament (also marked "Japan"), the Fitz & Floyd Santa plate, the loose Shiny Brites, the bottle brush candy cane ornament with mercury glass beads and the plastic nativity (made in Hong Kong). All of these were 99 cents and under.

At the first Goodwill, I found the vintage made in Japan ceramic Santa mug for 99 cents. It has some hairline cracks around the top, but I couldn't leave it there on the shelf. The same went for this vintage ceramic Alice in Wonderland figurine. Marked Wales, made in Japan, she has a chip on her base, but I adore all things Alice and couldn't leave her there either.
This particular Goodwill is located next to our major mall and is always busy and it's hard to find good things there usually, having usually been pretty picked through. Right off the bat I found 10 bags of wooden drapery rings (which I use in my button wreath ornaments). I grabbed them all and then had to find a basket, as I couldn't keep everything straight in my arms. I then ventured toward the Christmas area and couldn't believe my luck when I found a "grab bag" of stuff for 99 cents and in this bag was 3 vintage diorama ornaments. At first I thought they were plastic, but then realized they were the real deal glass ones. I've always wanted some of these ornaments, but they are always too pricey online, so I was beyond excited with my find! I then found the boxed Christmas corsage (99 cents) and went around the corner and spotted one of the little Christmas spaghetti trim girl figurines randomly sitting on an all green glassware endcap...I snatched her up immediately...I love, love vintage Christmas figurines like this and these too are always pretty pricey online. I kept poking around and saw a small set of shelves near the entrance to their backroom and noticed Christmas stuff on these as well, so I went to check them out and spotted a second figurine, slightly different from the first! 99 cents a piece, I couldn't go wrong on these for that price! Both are marked Japan. I double and triple checked all the shelves to make sure there were no others and there were none that I saw, but on my 3rd trip around, I did find 2 little plastic deer. A good trip, for sure!

I started putting up the Christmas decorations today...I looked at the calendar long and hard before I started, but I figured, it's going to take me so long, that if I start now, I might have it finished by the weekend after Thanksgiving. Today, I managed to clean, dust and vacuum before I started and then got as far as fluffing my mini trees. It's going to be a slow process, but I promise to take lots of pictures when it's finished! :)

Have a great weekend!
Being from Maine, usually the flea markets and yard and garage sales die down in late September and early October ...it gets cold! This past weekend, however, I read about an estate sale on Craigslist...it sounded okay and it was okay...I got a few things like some vintage plastic babies and kewpies to add to my collection and a couple fun vintage coloring books, along with a few other odds and ends. Not bad. I was hoping for some vintage Christmas, but it turns out the lady was Jewish, so alas, so vintage Christmas there to be found.

And wow, totally worth it! Table and tables of stuff to pick through! I LOVE picking through tables...you never know what each table holds!

The first thing I noticed was a ceramic light up tree sitting in a box...I've been looking for one of these forever! It needed some cleaning and I'm going to replace the bulbs with some different ones (it was missing 3), but it works and it was only $5! Then, I spotted a box with some loose ornaments and in there was a lone hot pink Shiny Brite, a small wooden angel, lone plastic Santa cupcake pick, and best of all, a made in Japan Spun Cotton Head Pine Cone Santa ornament! Score! In another box, I found 3 vintage Santa face mugs...double score!
Then I was digging in a box and in the bottom, tucked in the corner, 2 vintage Mercury glass garlands! I am ALWAYS on the look out for these and have only ever found 1, so I was thrilled with this find! And one was even has shaped beads, even better! Unfortunately, some of the beads are broken...so I will have to either restring or use the remaining beads in crafts, but still, well worth it! They gave me all of my little Christmas finds for $1 for all! The mugs were 25 cents each. Every year, I always forget about the church sales and I need to not do that because I always find good stuff and the prices are always sooo reasonable and the money goes to the church. Never pass up a church sale!
On top of the 2 sales this past weekend, I went to some local Goodwills and Salvation Armies today with Tim's Mother and I think she brought me some great luck, because I found a few REALLY exciting finds, but I will have to show you those next times because I haven't taken pictures yet. This weekend, there is another estate sale, so I am excited about the possibilities of what I might find there!

I have been slowly adding more Christmas goodies to Other Such Nonsense...I've also re-opened my vintage and supply shop and have done an update there as well with some fun supplies! I will continue to add more over the next couple weeks...I've got some really exciting things coming! Off to do some listing now! :)
Sorry for the long absence...I promise to try my very hardest not to go that long again and if it's been some time and you haven't heard from me on here, just give me a little nudge! :)

Anyways, I am back! The shops are back, in time for the holiday season! For some reason, I find I really get a bulk of my inspiration from Christmas...I started my Christmas crafting back in June and soon, it will be time to tackle the decorating!

I participated in a local craft fair this past weekend and with that over, now my focus is to get stuff ready and listed in the Etsy shop. Here are some photos of my table set-up from the craft fair.

I'll leave you with my promise to blog more...over the next few months especially! Join me, won't you?
Every year it seems to go quicker and quicker. So, needless to say, this post is coming much later than I had originally intended, but still, I've managed to get it done before Christmas, so I suppose that counts for something...right? :)

This year, I added 6 different mini trees into the bunch...I've only photographed 5...still need to photograph the other. I tried to do different "themes" with each tree...deer/woodland, angels, kitsch, all colors, red and green, pink and blue, etc.

So, without further ado, here are like umpteen billion photos of my mini trees. Hope you enjoy!<img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; I have listed all that will be listed this year, so unless I happen to have more than 1 of something, once it's gone, it's gone. I've been so busy lately, that it's coming a little later than I had originally anticipated, but it is definitely coming. I thought I had a jump on the holidays by decorating so early this year, but I feel like this month is just flying by and I've barely had a chance to do anything I've wanted such as watch some of my favorite holiday movies and make Christmas crafts and send out my Christmas cards, etc. So much left to do!

Is this month flying by for you too?
-LindsayLindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07910824828818098461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5630189164102430528.post-90850323968057500892011-11-29T20:45:00.002-05:002011-11-29T21:31:06.515-05:00Christmas Decorating Pt. 2 - Festive CornersAs promised, here is part 2 of my Christmas decorating posts, featuring all the festive corners of my room.

Instead of going on with words today, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. They are definitely one of my favorite parts of decorating for Christmas...they are all so cute and each one seems to have a slightly different personality.I acquired my first kneehugger a few years ago when my Grandmother gave me hers. I used to love him so much when I would see him in her house when I was little, so it was a surprise when she gave him to me. From there, I was hooked...I always look for them when out thrifting.I found 2 more to add to my collection this past summer at a yard sale...and I only paid 25 cents each. Score!I did splurge a little bit, but not too much, about a month or so ago, however, when I stumbled upon this pink girl kneehugger on eBay. I fell in love with her immediately and had never seen one like her before. I bid at the last minute despite telling myself I wouldn't and now, here she is! Isn't she super sweet?Do you collect kneehuggers? I know, some of you may say that before Thanksgiving is too early and I get it, I do, but here's the thing, when you work in retail, Thanksgiving weekend isn't really a feasible time to decorate and if I want to actual enjoy the decorations for more than 2 or 3 weeks, now was the only time I could do it.

With that said, with all of the Christmas decorations I've amassed the past few years, it really is a process. I'm putting up 8 mini trees upstairs and 2 downstairs this year. That takes time. All weekend, in fact. I'm nearing the finishing stages of the upstairs and will begin the downstairs this week, in between working and whatnot. I'll be sharing lots of photos in the coming weeks, but for now, I'll leave you with a sneak peek mobile upload, so forgive the poor-ish quality. Also, I'll be listing more ornaments tonight @ Other Such Nonsense, including diorama and spool ornaments!

Hope everyone had a lovely and/or productive weekend!
-LindsayLindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07910824828818098461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5630189164102430528.post-47669694286864604792011-11-06T16:10:00.003-05:002011-11-06T16:55:14.905-05:00Ornaments, Ornaments, Ornaments!I love ornaments! Here's a mini Christmas village I made last week out of some old Home Interiors wood house Welcome blocks.I painted the houses, glittered the roofs, cut cardstock for the windows and doors and added some silver washi tape for the "glass". Then, I glued some beads to the bottlebrush trees, added a few vintage miniature deer and voila! A mini Christmas village! Super simple and easy and very rewarding once finished. I'm sure if you keep your eyes peeled for any wooden houses, you could make your own.

Love this time of year!
-LindsayLindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07910824828818098461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5630189164102430528.post-66992403631683883282011-06-11T13:25:00.003-04:002011-06-11T13:30:18.483-04:00Vintage Wood Milk Crate HelpHello all, I know it's been forever and I promise to properly post soon (not that anything has been going on to talk about).

For now though, I'm asking for help from anyone who knows how to properly clean a vintage wood (and metal) milk crate. I picked one up at a sale today and want to be able to properly clean the wood. It's in pretty good shape as is, just old and dusty/dirty. Does anyone have any good tips? I'd love to be able to create a display with it at some point indoors, but I have a bug phobia and don't want to bring it in the house until I can be sure it's clean and that anything creepy and crawly (even if they are teeny and tiny creepy crawlies) are good and dead and not coming in with it. I'm sure it's not too bad as is, but if anyone does have any good tips, I'd love to hear them and would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!
-LindsayLindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07910824828818098461noreply@blogger.com1
