Trick or Treat!

I have some exciting news! I made the Winter '07 One Page at a Time design team!
So, so happy! I wasn't expecting this at all and had almost not tried out, as I hadn't made it before, but at the last minute, I figured "What do I have to lose?". So, I was pretty stoked to find the good news in my email this morning! Thank you so much Capella, Julie and Tony! I highly recommend checking out their kits too! They're way cool! :)

Not much else going on right now. Tim and I carved our very first pumpkin the other day...it was so much fun! My favorite part was gutting it, although Tim didn't think I would even touch the inside because it's "gross", but after he told me, he should have figured, because I don't mind having gross stuff on my hands with all that goopy stuff Iuse (meaning paint, papier mache, etc.), lol! Hoping to upload the pics of the event soon, so I can scrap some of them!

Also, have some new layouts to photograph, but it's managed to be cloudy and rainy the past few days, so I'm waiting for some sun to take them. For now, I'll leave you with this Halloween layout!
Have a happy and safe Halloween everyone!

New challenge and more birds!

The new challenge is up at ScrapMojo. It's, like, a totally cool one, dude! No, in all seriousness, it is. You have to incorporate one of the given MySpace-type bulletins, ie. "You know you're from the 80's when..." and include lots and lots of layering! It's definitely a challenge, but it's completely fun and the sponsor for this challenge is Coordinate Collections. Here's my take...
Tried to go for that 90's, lots of color, super bright, vibe. I chose the 90's because even though I was born in '85, I feel as though I'm more of a 90's child because I remember more. Being 5 at the end of the 80's, I remember stuff, but mostly that stuff I'm referring to, stretched into the early 90's. I think the pic of me is from like 3rd grade or something. I'm actually surprised I used it because I hate that pic, but I guess it's all well and good. My dress had some sort of fruit print on it and my headband had Minnie Mouse, haha. I remember later that day, I started feeling really icky and on the bus ride home, it got worse. I ended up coming down with the flu, which I think is why I look a little flushed in the pic. I think that was near the end of my headband phase too. Shortly after, because of said flu, I was puking into a bucket and I had on my favorite headband (not the Minnie Mouse one, haha) and it slipped off my head and into the bucket. Turned me off towards headbands for, like, ever! lol. Anyways, get scrapping and get those LOs linked up by Oct. 30th! :)

Before I head off to do some errands, I'll leave you with my 2 new bird ornaments. I liked making the other so much, figured I'd make a few more! I only had 2 of those wooden circle thingies, so this time I had to get creative. I used the empty roll from a package of Glue Dots for the first and an empty masking tape roll for the second. See? It's all about that re-using and re-purposing. I challenge everyone to try it. It makes me feel good, like I'm not contributing quite as much waste. In reality, I probably am, but I still don't feel like I am, so I don't know. I just know it feels good, so I recommend trying it! Here are the birds (both up for sale in my Etsy shop)...
Have a good week, everyone! :)

Rain, rain, go away!

It's very rainy here today...sooo makes me want to just stay inside and do nothing. Or, you know, take care of business on the computer, haha.

I uploaded a new mini album to my SIStv portfolio. Actually, it's my very first mini ever! I started making it back in July (hence why I titled it Recap: Our Love as of 7/07), but then I had to make a bunch of LOs for my Memory Makers Masters and Creating Keepsakes SOY entries, so it got shelved with the intention of finishing it immediately after. Well, yeah, didn't quite happen like that and it ended up just sitting on top of my desk, buried under magazines and papers and books. Finally, I figured I should finish it. Now or never and I certainly didn't want to throw it away! So, I finished it. In hindsight, I kinda wish I hadn't dated it on the front cover. It was kind of hard trying to think back and remember what happened before July and what was after. But oh well. I guess that's why they say hindsight is 20/20. Here's the front cover...you can see the rest here.
On to the next order of business...back in June, I bought this bag of sewing "stuff" at a flea market. I only bought it because it had this awesome pink pom pom and sequin trim in it, but I figured you never know what I could do with the other stuff. Well, it also had these 2 wooden circle things with a little hook thing attached to the top. No idea what they are/were, which is why I keep calling them "things". I kept them, thinking, maybe I can find a use one day. That day came the other day when I had the idea turn them into Christmas ornaments! I've been going through a big try-not-to-throw-stuff-away-instead-turn-it-into-something phase (and by phase I mean, not a phase, just a new way to be). So, I started with this little paper bird I received in a box of goodies purchased from Annalise @ Sugar*Sugar. I had been wanting to use it forever, but couldn't figure out the perfect thing to use it on. One thing led to another and then it ended up turning into this:At first, I really wanted to keep it and put it on the Christmas tree this year, but when I showed it to my Mother, she immediately veto-ed that idea because she hates birds. So, instead I'm putting it up for sale in my Etsy shop, hoping that it will find a good home, somewhere where it is appreciated and loved and not hated, haha.

I then created a second ornament with the other wooden circle thingy, using a silver tree cupcake topper, lace, and buttons. I actually like this one wayyy more than the bird myself. It's much more "my style", so I'm keeping this one for the tree. Of course, my Mother didn't like this one either, so I told her it was either this or the bird, lol. This one won out. :)
Speaking of my Etsy, I also added this new little trinket box. Hoping to add more soon (I just have to make them! haha)...In other news, the first ever ScrapMojo Challenge winner was announced! Congrats to Sharmaine! Her LO was so awesome! Thanks to everybody who participated! The next one is gonna be even more awesome-er (if that's possible!). It should be posted tomorrow! There's a clue up now for those who can't wait! :)

Finally, check out these goodies I got the other day in the mail from Ellen @ OneRipePeach. I can't wait to play with them! Ellen is so awesome! She's got a great eye for creating and putting supplies together! They came all pretty-like in this cute little red pail. There were also some jingle bells and vintage red buttons, but they're already mixed in with my stash, haha.

That's all for now. I suppose I should go get my paycheck and go to the bank. But honestly, I REALLY don't feel like going out in this rain! haha...

hope it's sunny in your neck of the woods!

Fresh!

Not much going on today, but I just wanted to share this brand spankin' new layout with all ya'll! :)
Had fun with this...tried to keep it simple and mellow (aka, not bright!), yet I still wanted to give it a slight funkiness. Pretty happy with the result. All the buttons are vintage, as are the labels (which came out of my One Good Bumblebee Pile of Paper!), Lace trim is from OneRipePeach, my favorite place for vintage lace trim!

Have a good rest of the weekend everyone!

Woo hoo!

You've probably been wondering what the good news is that I hinted at in my last entry. Well, here it is...I was chosen as one of ScrapMojo's "Mojo Girls"! Yay! Scrap Mojo is an awesome new challenge blog that going to be overflowing with lots of random and cool challenges and I feel totally honored to be a part of it, along with some other highly talented ladies!
And it just so happens that today is the day that the first challenge has been posted! It's a double whammy too...you have to use the quote "Nobody puts baby in a corner" from 'Dirty Dancing' AND (see, this is the double whammy part) you have to include a handmade felt embellie! Here's my take:
A little background on the photo and layout...this is my Mother, Uncle and Grandmother back in the day. My Mom has always told me stories of how her brothers (my uncles) would always wreck her belongings and her cousins would always try to steal her Christmas presents, so she'd have to hide them after she'd get them and she could never have anything nice, etc. Well, when I saw this photo my Grandmother had tucked away in an album, I found it amusing because even from a young age, she seems to be trying to protect her stuff. I just love how she's backed into that corner with a don't-mess-with-me look on her face, clutching her Christmas stocking. I guess it's one of those things where you really believe it when you see some proof, haha. So, having never actually seen the movie "Dirty Dancing" (I know, I know! haha), and having no idea what that quote is actually in reference to, I figured it would be fitting to incorporate the quote in with this photo. And there you have it!

Now, I just got a new package from TwoPeas today, so I'm off to check out my new stuff (and hopefully play!), but you all should go check out that challenge...seriously. The prize is killer...a kit from the Red Velvet Kit Club and uhh, who doesn't want that? :)
Till next time,
-Lindsay
